Sweden becomes country with highest coronavirus death rate per capita

We count any death where the person has covid as part of our statistics. So even if you die from heart-failure or whatnot you'll still be counted as a covid-death. Most countries do not do this. Some countries have "0 new cases" like China.

My mother works as a doctor so I watch the daily briefings each day. Literally every day you have international- and national questions about how "Sweden has the highest deaths per capita".

People believe in numbers when it suits their agenda or world-view.

I used to always make this example when people discussed "rapes". Sweden has the worlds most covering rape- and sexual-assault laws, with the least victim-blaming, a free view on sex etc. which results in the most rapes documented per capita. Saudi has almost 0 rapes reported. Must mean Saudi is a utopia women and Sweden is a hellhole for them, right? Numbers can easily be skewed. It takes a modicum of thought to counter-act that, but sadly that's rare nowdays.

Meanwhile China has 0 new cases and trump keeps throwing "2 million" around.

As it stands right now, there is no real knowing what the "best" strategy is. One thing that is clear is that you can have "bad" ones like recommending deadly treatments used against malaria (a parasite) for covid (a virus) without any sound scientific basis.

Sweden isn't driverless, we have some of the best scientific- and medical centers in the world. People who've worked in WHO, EU and UN strategies are all chiming in on this. By no means is it a clear-cut case though, there's opposition for how it is being handled. But to paint it up like we're having bolsenero or trump throwing shit around whilst ignoring reality is just not the case. When our PM keeps getting politically charged questions, or leading questions, he doesn't go "CHINA!" or blames anyone, he literally just says that he trusts the medical professionals in this and what they, the trained medical professionals, deem to be the best approach.

In a year or two it might be entirely clear that Swedens approach was the worst possible way. But as it stands now with the scant knowledge of the disease and the absurd retardation of numbers people are haphazerdly throwing around nothing is written in stone.
